Tributes pour in for Thailand’s King Bhumibol
13 October 2016 – Tributes and messages of condolences are pouring in for Thai King Bhumibol Adulyadej following his death this afternoon.
King Bhumibol, 88, had been the world’s longest-reigning monarch and was highly revered by people of his country. He died at 3.52pm at Bangkok’s Siriraj Hospital after a long battle with ill health.
Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn, who was designated heir-apparent in 1972, is expected to succeed his father.
Starting tomorrow, flags will fly at half mast at all government buildings and schools in the for 30 days starting from Friday, and Thais have been urged to refrain from any festivities during the period.
